EEMS Gap Analysis v06

Apr 5, 2017 (Last modified Jul 21, 2017)
Description:
A value of 0 indicates the highest level of protection, while a value of 1 indicates the lowest level of protection; all other levels scale in between these values. The areas of highest value (darkest color) are habitat types that are not well protected in reserves. The area of lowest protection on this map can be found west of Santa Maria and north of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Preserve.

This gap analysis consisted of overlaying land from the Protected Areas Database and the National Conservation Easement Database with their associated GAP statuses, along with land protected under the Williamson Act, with vegetation class reporting units from the CWHR/FRAP Vegetation dataset. "Urban," "Barren," "Pasture," and all WHR10 Agriculture classes were removed for the purposes of this analysis. GAP statuses can be seen here.

More information on gap analyses can be found at the USGS National Gap Analysis Program website.

This is one of the SB Blueprint's synthesis products using the Environmental Evaluation Modeling System (EEMS).

Upon opening the map, click on the EEMS Explorer icon in the layers tab. (See also the 4 minute EEMS Explorer introductory video.)

All of the input layers are shown in the EEMS Explorer window, as well as how they are overlaid.

For an overview, webinar, and peer reviewed publication about EEMS, please see the EEMS home page. (Note that our EEMS models do not use "fuzzy logic".)  See also the SB Blueprint webpage for a project overview.
